If your idea of a good time involves eating haggis, drinking whisky, dancing and kilts, you're probably either Scottish or were Scottish in another life (if we were to get all mystical). In any case, you're in for a special treat because on Saturday, January 23, the Beijing Scottish Society will gather for their annual Burns Night ball

No, Burns Night isn't a celebration of all things hot, but rather a tribute to the life and poetry of the Scottish bard, Robert Burns.

Also known as Rabbie Burns, the poet is widely regarded as the national treasure of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide as a pioneer of the Romantic movement. In 2009 he was chosen as the greatest Scot by the Scottish public in a vote run by Scottish television channel STV. What a guy.

The night itself promises all of the above mentioned Scottish specialties plus a lot of laughter and fun. Burns' life and works will be commemorated with songs, recitals and tributes, and a hearty feast. There will also be a live band, flown in especially from Scotland, providing the Scottish beats.
